Barbells are a true piercing classic: straight, and made of surgical steel, titanium, PTFE, BioFlex, acrylic or other materials. They have a ball at each end – or you might prefer a cone, cube, star, heart, or skull. Barbells with attachments are also very much in fashion.

Barbells are particularly suitable for tongue and nipple piercings, but you’ll also find them in more extravagant types such as Austin bars, ampallangs, and apadravya.
A curved barbell is known as a bananabell.
