Upper lip frenulum piercings

Type of piercing

The frenulum is the small fold of tissue in the middle of the inside of your lip. Whether you can have yours pierced depends on its size. It’s very thin, but relatively tough, so it’s normally suitable for piercing and can easily hold a ring.

Healing: This is usually easy, and takes one to two weeks if you look after the wound carefully.

Risks: A smiley piercing may irritate or damage your teeth and gums. Professional piercers use special balls, flattened on one side, to minimize the likelihood of this happening.
