<br>Als Oberbegriff versteht man unter Labret-Piercing generell [[Special:MyLanguage/Piercingschmuck|Piercingschmuck]] im Lippenbereich. Oft ist mit Labret aber konkreter ein Piercing der Unterlippe gemeint, während Piercings der Oberlippe als Madonna- oder [[Special:MyLanguage/Medusa-Piercing|Medusa-Piercing]] bekannt sind. Eine Variante des Labrets führt durch die [[Special:MyLanguage/Haut|Haut]] in der Mitte zwischen Unterlippe und Kinn („Kinnpflock"). Das Labret-Piercing ist aber auch anderweitig vielseitig nutzbar. So wird es bspw. häufig auch in den Ohren getragen, da die Platte am Ende oft als ein höherer Tragekomfort wahrgenommen wird, als der piksige Stab eines herkömmlichen Ohrrings.<br>
<br>Labrets sind beliebt und haben in verschiedenen Regionen der Erde eine lange Tradition: Bereits die Azteken und Inka schmückten sich zum Beispiel auf diese Weise und auch im Norden Kanadas und in Alaska waren Labrets bis ins 20.
