Hygiene musts
Scrupulous hygiene is essential to prevent infection when carrying out piercings. Like a doctor or dentist, a professional piercer should sterilize both their studio and their tools, and use disposal gloves and needles, removing these from their sealed packaging just before use. The workstation should be thoroughly cleaned before and after the piercing – and animals in the studio are a no-go.
Thorough aftercare of new piercings is vital if the wound is to heal properly and the piercing to stay looking good. Lack of hygiene can cause inflammation and infection, with unpleasant and sometimes long-term consequences.
