Some piercers make two holes at once and insert the jewellery, while others start with a simple helix, wait till it heals to see where the channel should go, and then do a second helix piercing to connect the two holes.
Healing: An industrial needle piercing should heal in about three to five months; a punched one in two to four weeks.
Risks: The secret of a good industrial piercing is getting the angle right. If it’s wrong, it puts pressure on the cartilage, which can cause pain, infection, and proud flesh, meaning excessive granulation tissue.
